Steven Moffat announced at a Doctor Who press conference on 21 March that Coleman has replaced Karen Gillan as the companion of the Doctor following Arthur Darvill left the series, would be playing the role of Matt Smith. Moffat picked her to play the role because she is the most effective with Smith and could speak more rapidly than the actor. She also got to express her creative side by performing music. Eva is not just acting, but she's also a businesswoman and philanthropist. She has been married three times, and has one daughter along with her husband.
